While chestnuts has been an important edible nut produced in several Italian regions, their market share of Italy’s total marketable agricutural production nowadays is very limited (in 2014 only 0,9%). Figure 1 highlights that the distribution of world production is concentrated in Asia, especially in China. This country has observed an impressise increases in production since early ’90s and now absorbes more than 80% of world production.
